Research by Hélène Bremer into the Grand Tour of Dutch baron Johan Frederik Willem van Spaen (1746-1827) resulted in a contribution of two chapters to a book on the history of his castle Biljoen in Velp, The Netherlands. One article is devoted to his travel journals, the other to the souvenirs Van Spaen bought during his journey in France and Italy. Special attention is given to the prints of Giovanni Battista Piranesi Van Spaen bought in Rome and that were translated into plaster to decorate in the main hall of the castle.
