“Clothing has always been important to me. It is a direct expression of who I am.”
This exhibition brings together the worlds of Grietha Scheers and visual artist Ellen Korth. Clothing connects them, yet their relationship to it is very different. Grietha delights in wearing her extensive collection of dresses, coats, and hats, while Ellen transforms worn garments into new material to make new objects through a calm, almost meditative process.
Through photography, sculptural works and art installations, visitors are invited to take a close look at the beauty of the works, but more so to reflect on the meaning of clothing: what it says about who we are, and where we belong.
In some of the the historic rooms of the Fraeylemaborg the exhibition is broadened with the story of Lady Mieke van Panhuys, whose mother was the last resident of the house. Her childhood memories are connected to dresses she wore that are curated within the historic interior.
The old parsonage in Warffum where Grietha Scheers lives with her husband is open once a week during the exhibition. Artist Ellen Korth made an installation from the clothes and accessories from Grietha’s collection in the 12th century old historic room ‘het Sael’.
This exhibition is curated by Hélène Bremer together with visual artist Ellen Korth and curator of the Freylemaborg Carien Kremer and will take place from 28 March – 30 August 2026.
